Smart-home devices are the most-touched surfaces in a modern home. A voice assistant in the kitchen gets splattered with cooking aerosols. A smart thermostat in the hallway collects finger oils. A smart display in the bedroom accumulates dust in its speaker grille. A video doorbell camera lens gets smeared with finger marks every time someone answers it. None of these devices should be cleaned with standard household spray — most have oleophobic screen coatings that harsh chemicals strip, and most have speaker grilles that liquid shouldn't touch.
Our electronics-safe wipe-down uses the right method for each surface. Screens (smart displays, thermostats with touchscreens, smart-fridge panels) get a dry microfibre wipe first — if there are finger marks, we use a 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe designed for electronics, applied to the cloth not the screen. Glass camera lenses get a lens-safe optical wipe. Metal housings (smart speakers, hubs) get a 70% IPA wipe — kills bacteria without damaging the finish. Speaker grilles get a soft-brush HEPA vacuum — never liquid, which would damage the speaker cone.
We don't disassemble devices, we don't spray anything directly onto a device (always cloth-applied), and we don't use household bleach, multi-surface spray, glass cleaner (ammonia strips coatings), or baby wipes (leave residue). We carry a small kit of electronics-safe cleaners — IPA wipes, lens-safe optical wipes, dry microfibre cloths, soft-brush vacuum attachment, and a can of compressed air for port-cleaning. Every device is powered on after cleaning to confirm functionality.

Smart speakers & displays
Amazon Echo, Google Nest, Apple HomePod, smart displays — housings wiped with 70% IPA, screens wiped with dry microfibre (IPA only if there are finger marks), speaker grilles soft-brush vacuumed. Touchscreens keep their oleophobic coating intact.
Smart thermostats & hubs
Nest, Hive, Tado, Honeywell, SmartThings, Hubitat — touchscreens wiped with dry microfibre, housings wiped with 70% IPA, sensor vents soft-brush vacuumed. Wall mounting plates cleaned. We don't reconfigure — just clean.
Cameras & doorbells
Video doorbells (Ring, Nest, Eufy), security cameras (Arlo, Wyze, Blink), indoor cameras — camera lenses cleaned with lens-safe optical wipe, housings wiped with 70% IPA, motion sensor windows wiped. We don't re-aim cameras.
Smart plugs & switches
Smart plugs (Tapo, Kasa, Meross), smart light switches (Lutron, Shelly, Sonoff), smart bulbs (Philips Hue, LIFX) — housings wiped with 70% IPA, finger marks removed from buttons. We don't unplug or re-pair devices.
Smart sensors & remotes
Motion sensors, door/window sensors, leak sensors, smoke alarms, smart remotes (Logitech Harmony, Sofa Baton, Apple TV remote) — housings wiped, sensor windows cleaned, button gaps detailed with a dry soft-bristle brush.
Port & connector clean
USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet and power ports on smart-home hubs cleaned with a can of compressed air (short bursts, not sustained). Lint and dust removed from ports — prevents the 'loose connection' issues that often turn out to be dust, not failure.

Inventory & isolate
On the first visit, we walk through your smart-home setup with you and inventory every device. Subsequent visits, we work from the inventory. Devices not powered off — we clean around them, no need to disconnect anything.

Touchscreens wiped with dry microfibre. Finger marks treated with 70% IPA wipe (applied to cloth, not screen). Camera lenses cleaned with lens-safe optical wipe. Oleophobic coatings preserved.
Housings & grilles
Device housings wiped with 70% IPA — kills bacteria without damaging finish. Speaker grilles soft-brush vacuumed (never liquid). Button gaps detailed with dry soft-bristle brush. Ports blown clear with compressed air.

70% IPA, not household spray
Standard household spray strips oleophobic screen coatings and damages speaker grilles. We use 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes designed for electronics, applied to the cloth not the device. Glass and metal only — never spray direct.
Soft-brush grille vacuum
Speaker grilles accumulate dust that muffles sound and harbours bacteria. We vacuum with a soft-brush HEPA attachment — never liquid, which would damage the speaker cone. The difference in sound is sometimes audible.
Function-checked after cleaning
Every device powered on and tested after cleaning. Screen responds, speaker plays, camera shows image, thermostat controls work. If anything's not working, we flag it immediately — we don't leave you to discover a dead device later.
No need to disconnect
We clean around devices in place — no need to unplug, disconnect, or re-pair anything. Smart plugs, hubs, sensors, cameras, thermostats — all cleaned in situ. Your smart home stays smart throughout the visit.
Lens-safe optical wipe
Camera lenses (doorbells, security cameras, indoor cameras) cleaned with a lens-safe optical wipe — the same product used for camera lenses and eyeglasses. No scratches, no coating damage, no smear. Clear image restored.
Compressed air for ports
