Handrail EN 14476 sanitisation — public health
Handrails sanitised with EN 14476 virucidal chemistry (proven effective against enveloped viruses including flu, coronavirus, norovirus). Chemistry applied by microfibre cloth, full length of handrail, both sides. Handrail inlet (where the handrail enters the mechanism) deep-cleaned — this is where bacteria accumulate. Handrail underside wiped. Handrail surface dried lint-free. Daily for high-traffic (shopping centres, transport hubs), weekly for medium-traffic. Handrails are the highest-touch surface on an escalator — critical for public health.
Glass panel polish — streak-free
Glass panels (balustrade glass on escalators, glass shaft panels on lifts) polished streak-free. Specialist glass chemistry (low-VOC, alcohol-based), microfibre cloth, squeegee for larger panels. Both inside and outside of balustrade glass. Handprints, lip marks, and greasy residue removed. Final buff with dry microfibre — zero streaks, zero lint. Glass looks invisible. Weekly for high-traffic (handprints accumulate fast), monthly for medium-traffic. Streak-free glass is the visible signal of a clean building — we never leave streaks.
Mechanism zone HEPA vacuum — dry only
Escalator and lift mechanism zones dry-vacuumed with HEPA machine (CRN-rated for confined spaces). Dust accumulation in the mechanism drives friction, wear, and eventual breakdown — regular HEPA vacuum extends mechanism life. Operatives trained in confined-space entry (CRN). NEVER wet cleaning in mechanism zone — electrical risk. We do NOT clean inside the lift mechanism cabinet — that's for the lift engineer. We clean the truss area under the escalator (where accessible), the lift shaft pit (dry vacuum only), and the area around the mechanism (HEPA vacuum).
LOLER-compliant support for lift engineer
LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) requires lift inspection every 6 months. We work alongside your lift engineer during LOLER inspection — providing access, supporting shaft cleaning, documenting findings. We do NOT perform LOLER inspection ourselves (that's the lift engineer's role) — but we support the inspection by ensuring the lift is clean, accessible, and ready.
