Spin clean. Quiet spin.

Ceiling fans are dust magnets — the leading edge of each blade builds up a felted layer of dust that, when the fan runs, sheds onto everything below. Our ceiling fan cleaning add-on details every blade (top and bottom), the motor housing, the light kit, and the pull chains. We re-balance the fan after cleaning — dust build-up throws off the factory balance and causes the wobble that wakes you at 3am.

What this service is

More than just a tidy-up.

A genuine baseline reset for your home, delivered by people who actually know it.

Ceiling fans are one of the most under-cleaned fixtures in a home. The blades spin, so they look 'clean enough' from below — but the leading edge of each blade builds up a felted layer of dust that can be 2-5mm thick. When the fan runs, this dust sheds onto everything below: bedding, sofas, dining tables, kitchen worktops. The result is mysterious 'dust showers' that homeowners blame on the windows or the pets, when the actual culprit is the ceiling fan.

There's also a balance issue. Ceiling fans are factory-balanced using small weights on the blades. As dust builds up unevenly (more on blades facing the room than blades facing the wall, due to airflow patterns), the balance shifts. The fan starts to wobble, makes more noise, and eventually the mounting can work loose. Cleaning the blades restores the balance — but if it's been a long time, the factory weights may need adjusting too. We carry a fan balancing kit and can re-balance if required.

Our cleaning protocol covers blade tops (where settled dust builds up), blade bottoms (where grease and airborne particles stick in kitchens), the motor housing (dust in the vents reduces cooling and shortens motor life), the light kit (fly spots, dust, heat-discoloured glass), and the pull chains (untangled, wiped, and the chain ends replaced if missing). For very high ceilings, we use a footed step ladder or an IPAF-certified boom lift — never a chair or a balancing act.

What's included

Every visit, room by room.

A baseline reset of your home's high-traffic zones — refined after the first three cleans to match your priorities.

Blade top & bottom detail

Both faces of every blade cleaned. Soft-brush HEPA vacuum first to lift the dry dust, then damp microfibre wipe with a pH-neutral detergent. Kitchen fans get a degreaser on the blade bottoms. The leading edge (where dust felts) gets extra attention.

Motor housing & vents

Motor housing wiped down. The cooling vents (typically on the top of the motor) vacuumed with a soft brush attachment — dust in these vents reduces cooling and shortens motor life. We don't oil motors — that's a maintenance job for an electrician or the manufacturer.

Light kit clean

Light kit (glass bowl, shade, or exposed bulbs) cleaned. Fly spots removed. Heat-discoloured glass treated with a glass-safe cleaner. Bulbs wiped with a dry cloth and replaced if failed (we'll flag the failed bulb — you provide the replacement).

Pull chain & switch detail

Pull chains untangled, wiped down, and the chain ends (typically small wooden or metal toggles) replaced if missing — we carry a selection of standard replacements. Wall switches and remote controls wiped. We don't replace the chain itself — that's a manufacturer job.

Fan balancing

After cleaning, the fan is run at all speeds and checked for wobble. If it wobbles (dust build-up can permanently shift the balance), we use a balancing kit (small clip-on weights) to restore smooth running. No more 3am wobble noise.

Mounting check

The ceiling mounting (the bracket that holds the fan to the ceiling) checked for looseness. If loose, we'll flag it — we don't tighten mountings (that's a job for an electrician or a competent DIYer with the right tools). Loose mountings are a safety issue and should be addressed promptly.

Add-ons available on any visit: oven cleaning, fridge clean-out, inside cabinets, laundry folding, ironing, pet area sanitisation, window interiors, and more — all bookable from your client portal.

How it works

From quote to first clean in 48 hours.

No pushy sales calls. No multi-week onboarding. Just a clear, four-step path to a cleaner home.

01
10-15 mins

Isolate & access

Fan switched off at the wall and isolated at the consumer unit (so a wall switch doesn't accidentally start the fan mid-clean). Access set up — footed step ladder for standard ceilings, IPAF-certified boom for ceilings over 4m.

02
30-60 mins

Vacuum & wipe

Soft-brush HEPA vacuum on every blade top and bottom to lift dry dust. Then damp microfibre wipe with pH-neutral detergent (degreaser in kitchens). Motor housing vents vacuumed. Light kit cleaned.

03
15-20 mins

Pull chains & balance

Pull chains untangled and wiped. Light kit re-fitted. Fan powered on and run at all speeds. Wobble checked and balanced with clip-on weights if required. Mounting checked for looseness.

04
10 mins

Re-test & handover

Fan run at all speeds, light kit tested, pull chains tested. Before/after photos uploaded to your portal. Failed bulbs, mounting issues, and any electrical concerns flagged for your attention.

Why Maundy Clean

The standards that earned 6,200 five-star reviews.

Six commitments we make to every recurring client — written into your service agreement, not just our marketing.

Isolated at consumer unit

We don't just switch off at the wall — we isolate at the consumer unit (fuse box) so a mis-flipped wall switch can't start the fan mid-clean. Electrical safety is non-negotiable when working around ceiling fittings.

HEPA vacuum first

Soft-brush HEPA vacuum lifts the dry dust before wiping. Damp-wiping dry dust turns it to mud that smears onto the blade. Vacuum first, wipe second. The professional sequence — we don't skip it.

IPAF-trained for high ceilings

Standard ceilings (up to 3m) — footed step ladder. Vaulted or high ceilings (over 4m) — IPAF-certified boom lift or scissor lift. Never a chair, never a balancing act. We've cleaned fans in listed buildings with 6m ceilings.

Re-balanced after cleaning

Dust build-up throws off the factory balance. After cleaning, we run the fan at all speeds, check for wobble, and re-balance with clip-on weights if required. No more 3am wobble noise.

Mounting safety check

Loose mountings are a safety issue — a falling ceiling fan is a serious incident. We check every mounting for tightness and flag any issues. We don't tighten mountings ourselves (that's an electrician's job), but we'll tell you if it needs doing.

Failed bulb & electrical flag

Failed bulbs, damaged wiring, signs of motor overheating, loose mountings — all flagged with photos in your portal. We don't fix electrical issues (that's an electrician's job), but we report what we find.

Bedroom ceiling fan hadn't been cleaned in 2 years — was shedding dust onto the bed every night. Maundy Clean vacuumed, wiped, and re-balanced it in 45 minutes. No more dust showers, no more wobble. They even replaced the missing wooden toggle on the pull chain. Annual booking.

Six ceiling fans in our dining room, all greasy from kitchen extraction. Maundy Clean came in overnight, degreased every blade top and bottom, cleaned the motor housings and light kits, and re-balanced two that were wobbling. The dining room is brighter and the fans are silent. Quarterly contract.

Vaulted living room with a fan at 4.5 metres. Maundy Clean brought an IPAF-certified boom lift, isolated at the consumer unit, and detailed the fan properly. No drama, no damage to the ceiling rose. The fan runs smoothly for the first time in years. Worth the access surcharge.
