Festive decorating prep is the cleaning you wish you'd done before putting up the tree — booked in the days before, so the decorations go up on a spotless starting point. Christmas tree lights, baubles, candles and garlands highlight every cobweb in the corner, every fingerprint on the glass, and every dust particle on the mantelpiece. A standard weekly clean doesn't catch the high-dusting and detailing that festive decorations demand — that's what this service is for.
The festive prep protocol focuses on the surfaces and zones that festive decorations draw attention to. High-dusting of ceiling corners, picture rails, tops of kitchen cabinets, light fixtures and ceiling fans (where strings of lights cast shadows that highlight every cobweb). Glass polishing — windows, mirrors, picture frames, display cabinets — to a streak-free finish that catches fairy-light reflections. Hearth and mantelpiece detailing ahead of stockings and garlands. Floor care that's appropriate for the foot traffic of a house full of guests.
Most clients book festive prep for late November or early December, and then book the matching pack-down for early January. The pack-down service takes down the decorations (you sort and we wrap), packs them in tissue paper and labelled boxes, sweeps up the fallen pine needles (real trees shed up to 30,000 needles over a season), and resets the room. Many clients book both services together at a discounted rate.

High-dusting
Ceiling corners, picture rails, tops of kitchen cabinets, doorframes, and light fixtures — the zones where strings of lights cast shadows that highlight every cobweb. HEPA-filtered extended-reach vacuum with soft brush attachment.
Glass & mirror polishing
Windows, mirrors, picture frames, display cabinets and glass doors polished to a streak-free finish with microfibre and pH-neutral glass cleaner. Fairy lights and candles reflect beautifully off properly polished glass.
Light fixture detailing
Chandeliers, pendant lights, lampshades, wall lights and fairy-light strings detailed individually. Each bauble on a chandelier hand-cleaned with a soft cloth. Lampshades vacuumed with a soft brush attachment.
Hearth & mantel prep
Fireplace, hearth, mantelpiece and surrounding stonework cleaned and prepared for stockings, garlands and candles. Ash removed (if solid fuel), stonework brushed, mantelpiece wiped. We don't decorate — just prep.
Floor care for guests
Hard floors mopped with a quick-drying pH-neutral cleaner (won't mark guests' shoes). Carpets vacuumed edge-to-edge and spot-treated where required. Rugs beaten if small enough. Entryway mat laid if you have one.
Post-festive pack-down (optional)
Booked as a paired service for early January. We help take down decorations, wrap fragile items in tissue paper, pack in labelled boxes (yours or our archive boxes at £3 each), and reset the room. Pine-needle sweep included.
