Why primary & secondary schools needs a specialist

Not a generalist. Not a franchise template.

A genuine sector-led protocol delivered by crews who know your regulatory landscape, your audit rhythm, and the cost of getting it wrong.

School cleaning is a unique discipline. The buildings are large, the occupants are children (some with complex additional support needs), the budgets are tight, and the regulatory framework involves both the Care Inspectorate (for early years and ASN provision) and Education Scotland. Maundy Clean has spent over a decade inside Scottish schools, from 40-pupil rural primaries to 1,400-pupil urban secondaries.

Our school division operates a term-time daily model plus a holiday deep clean model. During term, a regular crew (typically 2–6 cleaners depending on school size) arrives at 3:30pm and works through to 7pm, resetting classrooms, sanitising toilets, mopping corridors, and prepping halls. During holidays, a deep clean team handles carpet extraction, floor stripping, window cleaning, and CLASP/EWG disinfection of all touchpoints — work that can't happen during term time.

We understand the rhythm of a school: morning rush, mid-morning break, lunch hour, afternoon lessons, after-school clubs, staff meetings, parents' evenings, school shows. Our crews work around all of it — they don't enter classrooms during lessons, they avoid corridors during changeover, and they're trained in child-safeguarding protocols. Every cleaner is PVG-checked, every cleaner completes annual child protection training, and every cleaner is briefed on the school's specific safeguarding lead.

Compliance & Standards

The frameworks we work to.

Every protocol, every checklist, every audit trail — mapped to the standards your regulator expects to see.

Care Inspectorate
Care Inspectorate National Care Standards

Our protocols align to Care Inspectorate standards for early years and ASN provision — covering cleaning, infection control, and child-safety.

Education Scotland
Education Scotland How Good Is Our School?

Our cleaning contributes to Education Scotland's HGIOS? quality indicator 3.2 (school environment) — part of your school's inspection framework.

HSE
HSE School Cleaning Guidance

We follow HSE guidance on school cleaning — including safe use of chemicals around children, equipment storage, and slip-risk management.

COSHH
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

Every product carries a current COSHH datasheet. We use low-allergen, low-fragrance products as standard, and never spray disinfectants near children.

HSG 272
HSE Guidance on Legionnaires' Disease

We include water outlet flushing, temperature checks, and showerhead descaling in our scope — critical for schools with shower facilities.

Child Protection
Child Protection Training

Every crew member completes annual child protection training aligned to Scotland's National Guidance for Child Protection, and is briefed on the school's designated safeguarding lead.

Challenges we solve

The pain points you stop worrying about.

We've spent years inside primary & secondary schools operations. These are the issues we get called about most — and the protocols we've built to eliminate them.

Child-safeguarding responsibility

Every cleaner is PVG-checked and completes annual child protection training. They're briefed on the school's safeguarding lead and trained to report any concern immediately. Safeguarding is non-negotiable.

Outbreak response in a school community

Norovirus, flu, scarlet fever, headlice — schools are pathogen transmission hotspots. Our outbreak response team mobilises within 4 hours with dedicated equipment and documented stand-down protocols.

Allergen and asthma management

Children have asthma and allergies. We use low-allergen, low-fragrance, low-VOC products as standard. Spray disinfectants are never used near children — only wipes or pre-saturated cloths.

Term-time vs holiday rhythm

Term requires a 3:30–7pm daily crew. Holidays require a deep clean team. We provide both under one contract, with seamless handover between the two models.

Council budget pressure

Local authority school cleaning budgets are tighter than ever. Our frequency optimisation reviews typically deliver 8–12% cost-out without dropping any Care Inspectorate-critical task.

Multi-school estate management

Local authorities and independent school groups need consistent standards across multiple schools. We provide consolidated reporting, identical protocols, and a single account manager.

What sector clients say

Operators who'd recommend us.

"Maundy Clean has been with us for three years. PVG-checked, child-protection-trained, allergy-aware. Our last Care Inspectorate report scored 'very good' on environment — the highest we've ever achieved. The holiday deep cleans are exceptional."
Margaret Donnelly
Head Teacher
Hillhead Primary School, Glasgow
"Eight schools, one account manager, one monthly report. The consistency across the cluster is exactly what the local authority needs for governance. Outbreak response has been flawless — norovirus at one school was contained and cleared within 48 hours."
Robert Sinclair
Facilities Manager
Edinburgh City Council (cluster of 8 primary schools)
"1,400 pupils, 90 staff, 80 classrooms. Maundy Clean handles it. Same term-time crew every day, deep clean team every holiday. The summer floor stripping was finished a week before term started — first time in years that's happened."
