Litter tray emptied (old litter bagged), hot-water washed with pet-safe detergent (no bleach, no phenols), EN 14476 virucidal sanitised (kills toxoplasmosis, salmonella, E. coli), rinsed, dried thoroughly. Fresh litter added (we use your brand — every cat has a preference). Litter scoop cleaned and sanitised. Litter mat (under the tray) shaken, vacuumed, wiped. Litter tray location wiped (cats kick litter out). For multi-cat households, each litter tray cleaned (rule of thumb: one litter tray per cat, plus one extra). For self-cleaning litter trays, we follow the manufacturer's cleaning protocol.

Dog and cat bed cover removed and laundered at 60°C (kills pet pathogens including ringworm spores, fleas, dust mites). Pet-safe detergent (no optical brighteners, no perfume — pets have sensitive noses). Inner cushion aired (in sunlight if possible — UV kills bacteria) or washed if machine-washable. Bed frame (plastic, metal, or wooden) hot-water wiped and EN 14476 sanitised. Bed dried thoroughly before reassembly (damp beds smell). For non-machine-washable beds (foam-filled, orthopaedic), we spot-clean with pet-safe enzymatic cleaner and air thoroughly. Blankets and throws laundered at 60°C.

Crates (dog crates, puppy pens) hot-water cleaned (food residue, drool, accident residue), EN 14476 sanitised, dried. Crate tray (the plastic bottom) removed, washed, sanitised, dried. Crate bedding (towel, vetbed, blanket) laundered at 60°C. Carriers (pet carriers for vet trips) hot-water cleaned, sanitised, dried — particularly important after a vet trip (veterinary clinic pathogens can come home with your pet). Carrier bedding laundered. Pet toys: hard toys washed in hot soapy water, sanitised, dried; soft toys laundered at 60°C. Pet feeding station (mat under bowls) hot-water cleaned, sanitised, dried.

Food and water bowls washed in hot soapy water (60°C), EN 14476 sanitised, rinsed, dried. We recommend stainless steel or ceramic bowls (plastic bowls harbour bacteria in the microscopic scratches, even after washing — and plastic can cause cat acne). Plastic bowls: we'll flag this and recommend replacement. Bowl mat (under the bowls) hot-water cleaned, sanitised, dried. Water bowl particularly important — slimy water bowls are a bacteria risk (the slimy biofilm is bacteria). For multi-pet households, separate bowls per pet (no shared bowls — reduces cross-contamination). For raw-fed pets (BARF diet), bowl sanitisation is critical (raw meat pathogens).

Pet accidents (urine, faeces, vomit) treated with enzymatic cleaner (not standard carpet cleaner — enzymes break down the uric acid crystals that cause the persistent smell). Stage 1: blot (never scrub — scrubbing pushes urine deeper into the carpet and backing). Stage 2: apply enzymatic cleaner, saturate the area (the urine has spread wider than you can see). Stage 3: contact time 15-30 minutes (enzymes need time to work). Stage 4: blot again to remove moisture. Stage 5: repeat if the smell persists (old urine stains may need 2-3 treatments). For severe urine contamination (carpet backing, underlay), we may recommend carpet lifting — but we always try enzymatic treatment first.

Territory marking (urine on vertical surfaces — skirting boards, door frames, furniture legs) treated with enzymatic cleaner (saturate the area, contact time, blot). Territory marking is more common in unneutered males and multi-cat households. Pet hair removed from all surfaces: HEPA vacuum (CRN-rated, captures 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns — including pet dander, the allergen) on carpets, sofas, chairs, beds. Damp microfibre cloth on hard surfaces (the damp cloth picks up hair that dry dusting just spreads). Lint roller on clothing and throws. Pet hair on curtains: HEPA vacuum with soft brush attachment.
